Course Description

The race begins at Equestrian Trailhead Parking (this is also where runners park). Runners complete an approximately 2.7-mile loop utilizing Coyote Run, Pine, Cabin, and Big Wood trails. There is a 50/50 mix of open field and forest running. There are no big hills and only approximately 80 feet of elevation gain every loop. Runners will have excellent views of the fall foliage and bird-watching opportunities as they travel through the fields. The field trails are equestrian trails so they are wide and can be muddy if there has been rain. This is an incredibly beginner-friendly race!

Runners complete the 2.7-mile loop as many times as they wish in the 8-hour time. Only full loops will be recorded. Runners will travel in the same direction every loop.

This race also offers a “Parent Loop!” This unique idea allows family members the opportunity to run one loop with their runner. They will receive a finishing time (2.7 miles), award and shirt. The idea is to get families out on the trails together!

Packet pick up will begin Friday night at the Trailhead parking at Powhatan State Park from 6-7pm. Pick up will be available Saturday morning at the same spot beginning at 6:30am.

Aid Stations

There is one aid station at the start/finish. Runners pass by this every loop. The aid station will have typical Ultra foods like chips, pretzels, candy, PB&J, pickles, water, pop, and Tailwind. We will also have hot broth/soup. Runners travel through the parking lot every loop so they are also welcome to set up aid at their vehicle. We are once again partnering with the Cafe at Maidens for our meals and post-race food. Runners may choose to order a boxed lunch from the cafe. The lunches are delivered at 11 am and then a runner may elect to take their lunch whenever they would like. Lunches should be ordered as an add-on when registering at Ultrasignup.

Drop Bags

Runners may keep items at the start/finish or at their vehicle during the race.

Pacers

This is a family-friendly event with a short loop. Pacers are not only allowed, they are encouraged! Bring your family and friends out on the trails! Be sure to sign them up for the Parent Loop so they can get a finishers award and cool swag!

Dogs/Strollers

Strollers can be used although the trails are dirt and mud. Dogs are permitted with the race director’s permission. Runners understand that there will be other users on the trail. This includes other dogs (the park is frequently used by a dog rescue agency) and equestrians. You are responsible for the behavior of your dog.

Lodging

The park has a small campground with electric hook ups and Yurts. There are only approximately 30 sites so it does fill up quickly. The nearest hotels are in Midlothian, about a 25-30 minute drive towards Richmond.

Discounts

We are proud to offer discounts for all of our races. Enter the code “Thanks” at checkout if you are a military, fire, law enforcement, medical or educational professional.

Awards/Swag

The top 3 males and females (total distance) will receive awards. Every runner who completes a loop will receive a finishers award. This year we will be offering hats instead of shirts. We also recognize top local male and female runners.
